"Do you have any time that's your own?"
That's the question my own team asked me one day in 2018 — the hardest year of my life.
I was building a business from the ground up, raising two children, driving them to school every morning, carrying a car loan and a mortgage — and still standing behind the chair myself as a stylist. Somewhere in all of it, my time had stopped belonging to me.
Then a friend sent me an article about Drybar, the American blow-dry bar. Reading it, I realised the one part of my day that still felt like mine was the few minutes my own team spent washing my hair — a small pocket of stillness in the middle of everything else.
If that pocket of stillness had saved me, why couldn't it save someone else too?
That question became YAO Headspa Journey. My business partner and I built it — still one of the first of its kind in Malaysia — so every busy woman could have what I almost forgot I was allowed to have: a little time that belongs to no one but herself.
